A guy at the Denver recycling plant asked why I rinse my jars, then showed me the pile of 400 that never get recycled anyway
I toured the facility last Saturday and he pointed at a mountain of "recyclable" plastic that just sits there because there is no buyer for it. Made me switch to glass and actually check what my city takes. Does anyone know a good site to look up what actually gets processed in your area?
Did you ever wonder where all those glass jars actually end up? I used to save mine thinking I was doing something good, then found out my old city just crushed them for road base, which is fine I guess but not really "recycling" in the way I pictured. Moved two years ago and the new place takes almost nothing curbside, so now I haul my glass to a drop-off across town once a month. The weird part is I kind of enjoy it, like a small chore that makes me feel less useless about all the stuff I throw out. Still no idea what happens after it leaves the lot though.
