Spent $140 on a smart thermostat in February and my gas bill just came in $41 lower

I put a smart thermostat in back in February after my brother kept bugging me about it. Cost me about $140 at the hardware store down the street, and I almost took it back when I saw the price on the box. My gas bill for March came in $41 cheaper than the same month a year ago, so it should pay for itself by fall at this rate. I know one bill does not prove much, so has anyone tracked a full year with one of these? Curious if the savings hold up in the summer too.
