A guy at the Omaha library code meetup pointed at my Python function and said it was doing three jobs
I had been writing these long functions that read a file, cleaned the data, and printed a report all in one block, and I thought that was normal. He circled about 40 lines and said to split it into three small functions with clear names, so I tried it on a practice script that scrapes weather data for Omaha. Now when something breaks I can see which piece is wrong instead of scrolling through one giant blob. For those of you learning on your own, how do you decide when a function has gotten too big?
