Unpopular opinion: my pour over got worse after I bought a scale, and it took me 10 months to figure out why
Back in 2019 I was brewing by eye with a scoop and my coffee tasted fine, so I grabbed a $25 scale thinking I would finally get consistent. Instead my cups went flat and bitter for months, and I kept blaming the beans, buying new bags from three different roasters here in Boise. Turned out my kitchen outlet was on the same circuit as the fridge, so the scale read 18 grams when I was really dumping in 24. I moved the kettle setup to the dining room table and timed a few brews against a friend's scale, and my ratio was off by a third the entire time. So now I'm curious, has anyone else had a cheap scale drift on them, or did I just get a bad unit?
