Surprised by failure rate stats on refurbished drives I pulled from our dept
We pulled 40 refurbished SAS drives from a client's array last week, and 16 of them had over 50k hours on them with zero smart warnings. I looked up Backblaze's 2024 drive stats and realized enterprise refurbs aren't tested like I assumed, they just get wiped and relabeled. That made me rethink our whole policy of sourcing used drives for backups. Am I the only one who trusts refurbs less now, or do you guys have a different process for vetting them?

Whoa, honestly Backblaze tests consumer junk, not datacenter SAS, so your stats are probably skewed!
