Warning: That free driver updater cost me 3 hours last Tuesday

Last Tuesday I had a client bring in a laptop that was suddenly crashing during boot. They mentioned they had downloaded some free driver updater tool the night before. I pulled up the system logs and found it had replaced the graphics driver with a version from 2019. Rolled it back in safe mode and the machine was fine after that. I have seen this happen at least 4 times in the past year, always with these free tools. Has anyone else had luck convincing customers to just use Windows Update instead?
