Overheard a homeowner say our finish looked 'too shiny' and it stuck with me
She wasn't complaining, just noting it looked like a showroom floor instead of a driveway. After 15 years pouring in the Phoenix heat, I never thought of gloss as a problem, but it made me ask how much finish my clients actually want vs what I default to. You guys ever dial back the hard trowel passes for a more matte look on request?

Glare is a real thing out here, man. Three in the afternoon, sun straight overhead, a fresh hard trowel finish can turn a driveway into a mirror. I did a job last July over in Mesa and the homeowner came out with sunglasses on, said it was like looking at a lake. That stuck with me too. I still do the extra passes for that smooth look, but I ask about shade and how much direct sun the slab gets before I commit now. Most people don't know what they want until it's too late, so I try to show them a sample patch if I can.
