Switched from a mag float to a hand float on this Wayne County porch last week and the finish showed it
So I did a 12x16 porch slab outside Wooster last week and my mag float was acting up, handle wobbling, so I grabbed my old wood hand float out of the truck and just went with it. Honestly I expected the finish to come out rougher since the wood float seems slower, but it opened the surface up way nicer and let me work the cream without tearing it. The mag float always left these little chatter marks if I wasn't careful, and I'd end up chasing them with the trowel for an extra 20 minutes. With the hand float the paste stayed even, and when I hit it with the steel trowel at the right time the burn was smooth on the first pass. My knees were killing me since I was working on them the whole time, but the edge work was a lot cleaner too. Now I'm second guessing why I ever had the mag float as my go-to for small pours. Any of you all stick with wood on smaller jobs or is it mag float all day for you?
