Pro tip: I used to chase every 9/11 video on YouTube, now I only check one forum for structural engineers
Back in 2016 I spent like 40 hours a week watching conspiracy channels about building 7. A guy in my bowling league named Dave, who actually worked as a welder in Pittsburgh, asked me to look at the blueprints with him. We sat in his garage for 6 weekends going over fireproofing and column sizes. Now I barely watch those videos at all, I just lurk on a small forum where actual tradespeople argue about steel. Has anyone else had a hobby that got ruined once you talked to someone who actually does the work?
oh man this hits home. i got deep into flat earth stuff for like 8 months, watching hours of youtube every night, until my cousin who flies small planes for a living sat me down and walked me through how GPS and flight paths actually work. kinda killed the whole thing for me in one afternoon. same deal with my brief obsession over those "ancient aliens" shows, my buddy who does archaeology fieldwork just laughed and showed me how digs actually get dated. funny how one real conversation with someone who does the job wipes out 100 hours of internet rabbit holes.
