Hit 50 full foil clients this year and one of them finally told me why she keeps coming back
I keep a little tally in my phone notes of every foil service I do, mostly just to track how my timing is improving. I hit 50 for the year this week and realized my average went from 3 hours down to 2 hours 15 minutes, which honestly shocked me. But the better part was when a client of 2 years said she stays because I always tell her what I am doing before I touch her hair, not just during the consult. Never thought that little habit mattered that much, lol. Do you all track your service times, or am I the only nerd with a notes app full of numbers?
My phone notes app is basically a graveyard of foil timings going back to 2022, and I still write down the weird ones like "2:05, rushed because she had a meeting" so I can see what slowed me down. The talking thing you said is real though. I started saying stuff like "okay this next piece is going to feel cold" or "I'm about to move to the back" a couple years ago and my rebooking rate jumped without me changing anything else. People get nervous when hands are on their head and they can't see what's happening, so narrating just takes that edge off. My tip? Add a line to your notes after each service about what you said or did that got a reaction, and after like 20 entries you'll see the pattern in what clients keep bringing up. The timing numbers are great for you, but the soft stuff is what keeps them in the chair.
