Swiped right on a sushi date, ended up crying in the bathroom
I met a guy from Hinge at a place called Sakura Bistro in Portland last Friday, he talked about his ex for 45 minutes straight. Then he asked if I could split the $120 bill because he 'forgot his wallet.' Is there a secret handbook for bad first dates I missed out on?

Maybe it's just me but nobody is talking about the fact that he chose a $120 sushi spot for a first date. That's not "forgetting" your wallet, that's a strategy. He picks somewhere expensive on purpose so when he "forgets" his wallet you feel too awkward to push back on splitting it. And the 45 minutes about the ex? That's him testing if you'll stick around while he treats you badly. The whole date was designed to see what he could get away with, not to actually get to know you.

Sakura Bistro on Hawthorne yeah? Ive been there a few times and their miso soup is solid but the prices are wild for what you get. The forgetting the wallet trick is a classic move, but usually guys pull that after the bill comes, not before. Also 45 minutes about an ex on a Hinge date? Thats a whole new level of bad first date bingo. You dodged a bullet even if it cost you $60 and some bathroom tears.

@caseythompson calling it a whole new level of bad first date bingo is my new favorite phrase.
