The deepfake of my late uncle made me rethink my whole verification habit
Back in March my cousin sent me a video of our uncle talking about the family cabin, except my uncle passed in 2019. It looked so real, the mannerisms, the voice, the way he rubbed his chin. I almost shared it to the family group chat before I noticed the hands flickering in the corner. My cousin admitted he made it with a $30 monthly app just to see if we'd bite. That feedback stung, but it flipped my routine. Now I pause on any clip that feels too personal or too perfect, and I look for the tiny tells like ear shadows or unnatural blinking. Has anyone else had a relative or friend admit they faked something just to test you?
