Old school networking in person still beats my LinkedIn messages
Went to a Detroit makers meetup over on Gratiot last Tuesday and talked to 4 people who all remembered my landscaping software work from three years ago. Meanwhile I've sent maybe 40 LinkedIn pokes this quarter and got one reply that was just a link to their newsletter. There's something about shaking hands and seeing someone's reaction live that makes the follow up actually stick. How many of you still make time for the in person groups versus just working the algorithms?
That bit about seeing someone's reaction live is spot on... I showed up to a bike shop meetup last fall and ended up fixing a dude's chain while we talked shop, and he still sends me leads six months later. LinkedIn can't do that, man.
