Torque wrench lied to me on a road call, now I check it every Monday

Last month I did a quick hub nut job on a Peterbilt out near Modesto, torqued it to spec with my old Snap-On and sent it. Two days later the driver calls me screaming about a wheel wobble at 65 mph. Got back out there, checked it with the shop's new digital wrench, and I was 45 foot pounds light. That old wrench had been fine for 6 years, but something must've got bumped at some point. Now I test every torque wrench I own against the shop's calibrated one every single Monday before I leave. Has anyone else had a favorite tool just go silent on them like that, or am I the only one who trusted it too long?

That Snap-On going silent after 6 years is rough. Same thing happened to my old Craftsman clicker, it was dead on a brake job. Now I do a quick test against the shop standard first thing Monday too. Trust but verify, man.
