Sterilized my own needles at a friend's kitchen and regretted it
Did a stick and poke on my ankle at Mike's apartment in Austin last summer. Figured boiling the needle for 10 minutes was good enough but got a nasty red streak up my leg three days later. Anyone else skip proper sterilization and pay for it later?

Boiling needles is for tea, not tattoos.

And dont let @foster.tessa tell you otherwise, I learned that the hard way. I used to think boiling a sewing needle for 10 minutes was good enough for my first stick and poke, ended up with an infection that looked like a purple raspberry on my ankle for two weeks. The worst part is I had to explain to my doctor why I had a homemade tattoo that looked like a crooked smiley face. So yeah, boiling is for sterilizing your tea cup, not for needles going into your skin.
