Hotel lampshade fix with a binder clip

I was staying at a Holiday Inn Express last week and the lampshade on the nightstand kept sliding down the harp. The little plastic fitter was broken off. Rummaged through my bag and used a medium sized binder clip to pinch the shade onto the metal arm. Worked perfectly for the whole 3 night stay. Anyone else have a quick hotel room fix with stuff from their suitcase?

Three years ago I stayed at a Marriott Courtyard in Ohio and the curtain rod fell down at like 11pm. I used a wire hanger from the closet and a couple of those little tiny shampoo bottles to wedge it back in place by stacking them on the rod ends. Held up fine for the whole conference, but housekeeping probably thought I was hoarding toiletries.

Saw a guy do this with a paperclip once too.

Did he at least use it to win a bar bet or something? I mean, @aaron_mitchell, paperclips are basically the Swiss army knife of office supplies if you're desperate enough. Probably could fix a car with a paperclip and some gum if you're creative. Still think the hairpin would be faster though, just saying. Maybe it's a whole new trend and I'm just not cool enough to keep up.
