Noticed the old C-band dishes are getting harder to find at scrap yards
Went to the yard in Hattiesburg last week looking for a polar mount and came up empty. 10 years ago you could find a 10-foot mesh dish every other trip, now they are all scrapped or sitting in some hoarder's backyard. I swear the switch to those little DirectTV dishes killed the whole hobby around here. Anyone else having trouble finding old parts for a proper build?

Switch to DirectTV killed it"? Nah, cable TV killed it way before that.

Cable was already in the casket by then.

Oh shoot, I gotta push back a little on that. Cable TV was already struggling, sure, but it was the switch from analog to digital that really messed things up for a lot of people. In my experience, that forced everyone to get a box for every TV, and suddenly your whole house couldn't just plug into the wall anymore. That was the real killer for the old school cable experience, not just DirectTV coming along. Your mileage may vary, but I remember folks getting fed up with those box rental fees way before satellite took off.
