Shoutout to that $25 used book on local ghost stories that saved my butt at a party
I picked up a 1987 paperback called "Phantoms of Philadelphia" at a flea market in South Philly last month for 25 bucks. Turns out it had a whole chapter on the murder at the old Franklin Inn that matched what my buddy claimed his uncle saw in 1972. My friend swore it was an urban legend, but I pulled out the book and shut him down with the exact date and a witness name. Anyone else ever gamble on a random old book and hit gold?

Dude that's AMAZING. You basically became a walking historical database at a party. I love that you just casually whipped out a 35 year old book to OWN your friend.
I once bought a beat up "Cursed Hotels of the East Coast" for $10 and it had a detailed account of a death at a motel I was staying at that weekend. My wife was PISSED when I read it aloud during check in. Totally worth it.
Books like that are the ultimate party trick. You basically just became the Most Interesting Man in the Room for 25 bucks.

Totally worth it" until you read it at check in and now your wife won't stay there.

Respectfully, I think you're being a little reckless with your marriage. That book might be funny at a party but it's a bad look pulling it out at check in.
