Lost my job over a tweet criticizing workplace culture. Was it fair?

Worked in marketing until last week. I posted a sarcastic tweet about companies hiding behind 'culture' to avoid fixing problems. No names or private info were shared. My boss found it and let me go for bad brand image. I think it's a gray area because I was speaking generally. Friends are divided on if it was fair. What do you all think?

Damn, same thing happened to me last year. Got fired for a vague tweet about toxic bosses. My contract had a vague "conduct" clause they used. Learned the hard way that general statements still get read as being about your workplace. It's not really fair, but companies protect their image first. You gotta assume anything online can be traced back.

When I got fired over a Facebook post last year, I waited a full week before doing anything. My cousin who works in HR told me to gather all my old posts and emails. Like @gibson.morgan said, checking your contract is the first step, but I also looked up past legal cases. I ended up getting a small settlement because the social media rule was not clear. Sometimes companies back down if you show you know the law.

Check your employment contract for social media clauses.

Seems like overkill unless you're @henrydixon and actually naming your boss.
