Serious question, why does every pocket in my work pants hold exactly nothing useful?

Last Tuesday I dropped my phone three times because the front pocket on these new cargo pants I bought for $25 at Target is basically decorative. Then my house key slid out of the side pocket while I was loading groceries into the car at the Albertsons lot. I spent a good 10 minutes crawling around under the cart before I found it. Has anyone else dealt with pants that look like they have storage but really just eat your stuff?

Oh man I feel this in my soul! Bought a pair of "tactical" cargo pants from a brand I saw on Instagram and the pockets are so shallow my Chapstick falls out when I sit down. Took my kid to the park last week and had my phone slip right out of the front pocket while I was pushing her on the swings. Found it face down in the mud. It's like these companies just sew fake flaps on there to make us think we're getting storage but really we're just paying for the illusion of pockets.

Oh man, I got burned by the same scam! Bought those "5.11" knockoffs off Amazon and the "utility" pockets are just for show (my car keys took a dive into a puddle at the gas station).
