My dog heels off-leash in busy parks, and I think strict leash rules backfire
I'm really pumped that my dog, Buddy, now stays by my side without a leash in crowded spots. Most trainers say this is irresponsible, but I believe constant leash use makes dogs pull harder. We practiced recall and focus in empty fields for weeks before trying busier areas. Now he checks in with me naturally, and it's like we're a team. This approach turned our walks into a fun game instead of a struggle.

Seriously yes! My dog got way more focused once I tried this too, and @emery317 is totally right about that pressure thing. It's like they stop fighting you and start actually paying attention.

It's crazy how this applies everywhere! Tight leash rules on people or pets often just make them pull harder against the pressure.

Hold up, are we really saying all rules work like dog leashes? Traffic laws are strict for a reason, and they save lives. Kids often do better with clear limits, not constant freedom. Sure, some things backfire, but acting like every tight leash fails is just wrong. It depends on the situation, not some universal truth.

Doesn't it seem like the harder you hold on, the more they want to break free? Dogs are totally like that. Leashes can turn into a tug-of-war game instead of helping them learn.
