My nephew corrected me on climate change and I couldn't argue back

My 16 year old nephew brought up how his high school science teacher showed them data on local temperature changes over the last 50 years. He asked me if I remembered summers being cooler when I was his age, and I honestly couldn't say no. It hit different coming from a kid who just presented facts without any attitude.

Oh great, now I have to cancel my plans for the weekend and finally accept that the polar bears aren't just having a bad decade. That's exactly what I needed, a teenager with a PDF and a teacher who apparently did their job. I swear, kids today come armed with actual evidence and you just stand there feeling like a broken thermometer. My nephew hit me with NOAA data and I hit him with "well it definitely felt cold last February" which is basically an empty can of soup against a fire hose. I love that your kid just wanted to show you stuff without making you feel stupid. Mine just wants to win and then ask for a ride to the mall. Guess that's progress too.

Man that thing about summers being cooler really got me too when my own kid asked the same thing. I just told him yeah I remember not needing air conditioning as much and we used to play outside all day without melting. What worked for me was just admitting I didn't have all the answers but asking him to show me more of what he learned. Ended up watching a few YouTube videos together on the basics of it and it wasn't some big argument, just us looking at stuff and talking. Makes you realize the kids are just trying to understand things better than we did.
