Ngl, I had a change of heart about reality show arguments after 'Island Feud'
After binging 'Island Feud' last week, I totally shifted my stance. I always assumed the fights were scripted, but one contestant's breakdown felt too real to be acted. What's your take - is the drama on these shows usually fake or for real?

The producers definitely stir the pot, but that breakdown was all her. I talked to a friend who worked on a similar show, and he said they just edit to highlight existing friction. On 'Island Feud,' the lack of sleep and constant challenges make people snap for real.

Editing can twist small moments into huge dramas. For example, a tired sigh after a challenge might be cut into a scene where someone is criticizing a teammate. That makes the conflict seem way worse than it actually was. On shows like Island Feud, people are already stressed from no sleep and hard tasks. Producers take that real stress and edit it to create bigger fights. The emotions are genuine, but the causes shown are usually shaped for tv.

I read an interview with a former story editor from a big competition show. She said they film hundreds of hours for one episode and cut it to create a clear villain and hero. The feelings are real but the timeline is often messed up. They'll use a reaction shot from a different day to make a fight look worse. So the person crying on Island Feud was genuinely upset, but the reason shown might have happened two days prior. The editing builds a narrative from real moments.
