TIL my garage door spring can snap at 3am on a Tuesday
The loudest sound I've heard outside of work was that thing letting go around 2:45 in the morning. Spent the next hour trying to figure out if I could lift it manually, which I cannot. Anybody know a decent garage door guy in the north part of town that won't charge an arm and a leg?

Oh man, I'm gonna push back on the "arm and a leg" thing. Actually, in my experience, the cheap garage door guys can cost you way more in the long run. You get what you pay for, you know? I had a buddy who hired some guy off Craigslist to replace a spring for $150 once. That spring snapped again about three months later, and then his door got all crooked and jammed. Ended up paying a real licensed guy almost $500 to fix the whole mess. Those springs are under serious tension, and if the person doesn't know exactly what they're doing, they can mess up the door track or even get hurt and sue you later. I'd rather pay $300-400 up front for a solid job with a warranty than play roulette with your door.

Exactly. Cheap work ALWAYS costs more in the end.
