A winter freeze shut down my tiny house toilet system

The bacteria in the toilet died in the cold, creating a health hazard. I learned they need warmth to work and put insulation around the unit. A heat mat with a thermostat keeps it going now. Avoid my error and prepare for cold snaps.

Did the heat mat fix it fast? I mean, a space heater in the cabinet works in a pinch too.

Learned this after my pipes became a solid block of ice.

Been there... wrapped my whole composting unit in that silver pipe wrap one brutal year. A basic heat mat is a game changer, but make sure yours is secured flat against the tank. I learned the hard way that an air gap makes it useless. Old towels or a heavy moving blanket over everything adds another cheap layer.

Stuffed mine with old sleeping bags last winter and it worked like a charm.
