My classroom printer chose violence at the worst possible moment
Last Tuesday during my 5th period class, our big copier just started smoking. Not like a little puff, I mean actual gray smoke coming out of the back while 30 kids are watching me try to print their quiz. I had to unplug it and tell everyone we were doing a pop quiz orally instead. The look on their faces was priceless. Has anyone else had a machine literally give up on them mid-task like that?

My Canon copier did that same thing about three years ago, right before my 6th graders had to turn in their big research papers. The smoke smell lingered in the room for a week and I had to scan everything on my phone to get their work graded. At least your kids got a pop quiz out of it, my students were just stuck waiting while the janitor hauled it away.

and honestly the phone scanning thing saved my butt more times than i'd like to admit lol. I started keeping a portable scanner in my desk after our copier gave up during report card season, best $40 i ever spent. those little ones that connect to your phone via bluetooth, you can just feed pages through and they go straight to PDF. saved me from having to stand there holding my phone over papers trying to get the lighting right. the kids still joke about the "copier funeral" we had when they finally wheeled it out, but at least nobody lost any grades that year.

At least your copier had the DECENCY to smoke first, mine just eats paper and gives me that innocent beep.
