Remember when everyone's garage door openers in Amarillo sounded like a jet engine starting up?

I mean, you could hear my old chain drive from two houses down, but the new belt drive I put in last year is basically silent. Anyone else notice how much quieter the whole neighborhood got once those old ones started getting swapped out?

Notice how the sound changed from that deep grinding roar to more of a high-pitched whine on the newer models? My theory is the old metal-on-metal chain drives just vibrated the whole door frame like a speaker. The new setups must have way less physical contact. Makes you wonder if the noise was actually the motor or just everything shaking itself apart.

Totally, my old garage door sounded like a garbage disposal. The new one just has this quiet hum, it's a completely different kind of noise.
