My uncle's 1998 oil painting got submitted to an AI contest by accident
My uncle Dan painted this tiny harbor scene back in '98, all wobbly brush strokes and a lighthouse that leans left. Last month my cousin scanned it and threw it into a digital art submission site, only the site had an AI category checkbox pre-ticked. It won second place and $150 before anyone noticed, and when the judges found out they laughed and kept it in the gallery. Now I keep wondering, if nobody can tell the difference, what are we even arguing about? Has anyone else had a real artwork sneak into an AI contest by mistake?
