Had a client ask for a 'sunset balayage' and show me a picture of a literal sunset

She brought in a photo from her vacation, not a hair inspo pic, and got upset when I said I couldn't match the exact colors of the sky. The whole 90 minute consultation was just her pointing at clouds. I had to explain pigment, lightening, and tone all over again. Anyone else deal with clients bringing in pictures of things that aren't hair?

I finally figured out how to get past my own boring first drafts

For years, my writing process was to stare at a blank page until I had a perfect first line, then try to write the whole story from start to finish. I'd get stuck after maybe 200 words and give up. About six months ago, I read a blog post that said to just write the middle scene first, the one you can see most clearly in your head. So now, I open a new document and immediately write something like 'the detective finds the locket in the old clock' without any setup. I just vomit out that one scene with all its messy details. It's ugly, but it gives me something real to work with and build around. I wrote three whole short stories last month using this trick, which is more than I finished all last year. Has anyone else found that skipping the beginning entirely helps you actually finish things?

Tried a new clear coat on a Tacoma and got a weird orange peel

I used that new JetSpeed 4500 clear on a 2021 Tacoma bed repair last month, expecting a fast dry time. It laid down smooth but cured with this tight orange peel that wouldn't sand out without cutting too deep. Turns out their tech sheet said to use a slower activator in temps under 70, which my shop in Denver definitely was. Anyone run into this and have a better clear for cool weather jobs?

My video got flagged for 'harmful content' because of a weird sound effect

I posted a short clip about content moderation, and it got taken down in under an hour. The auto-mod said it had 'violent audio'... The 'violence' was just a 2-second clip of me smashing a keyboard key for effect. Appealing it took 3 days, and I had to send 4 separate support tickets explaining that a keyboard isn't a weapon. Has anyone else had a totally normal sound get flagged like this? What did you do?

Just saw 'made with real fruit' on a candy that's 90% sugar

Checked the back. Fruit juice concentrate was the last ingredient. That means there's basically none. How is that even legal to say? Anyone know a real brand that actually puts fruit first?

Overheard a client call a floor plan 'a Picasso' and it threw me

Was at the print shop yesterday picking up a set for a residential job. Guy next to me on his phone, talking to his architect. Said, and I quote, 'This layout is a Picasso. I love it, but which way is up?' The architect must have sent something wild. Made me think about how we present our work. A clear, clean drawing should explain itself. No one should need an art degree to read a floor plan. How do you guys balance creative design with making sure the client actually gets it?

Had to choose between a wired keypad in the garage or a wireless one inside the entryway for a client's new build in Springfield... went with the wireless and now I'm second-guessing.
