Question about the art fair in Austin this month
I was at the art fair in Austin this month and saw a whole section of AI generated prints being sold for $50 each. The guy running the booth said it was 'the future' and that he just typed in words. It made me think, is it fair for that to sit next to paintings someone spent years learning to make? What makes art worth buying now?

Honestly, you're paying for the idea and the final pick. That guy still had to choose the prompt and curate which image to print, which takes a different kind of effort. The value is in what it means to you, not just the hours it took to make.

Man, I saw a whole thing online about this. Some artist was saying if you just type words, you're more like a client than a creator. It kinda stuck with me. I mean, maybe the print looks cool, but it feels different from someone putting in all that time. Makes you wonder what you're really paying for.

Consider the person who wrote the prompt. They might have spent weeks learning how the AI sees words, testing hundreds of failed tries to get one good image. That's a real skill, just a very new and weird one. You're paying for their time spent in that learning curve, not at an easel.
