Showerthought: my art teacher said AI art has no soul, then I sold 3 prints made with it at the Decatur craft fair
Back in March my old art teacher from community college said nobody would ever pay for AI art because it lacks soul and real feeling. I messed around with some prompts anyway and brought 6 prints to the Decatur craft fair last month, sold 3 at $40 each. Maybe the buyers just liked the colors, but that advice cost me nothing to ignore. Has anyone else had a teacher or mentor call it worthless and then watched normal people buy it anyway?

Teachers mean well but they get stuck on what art is "supposed" to be. I've seen the same thing happen with digital photography and even with prints vs originals back in the day. If a stranger hands over $40 because a picture made them stop at your booth, that's a real reaction, not a fake one. Soul isn't something a teacher gets to hand out, the person looking at it decides that.
