Appreciation post: The week AI saved my small business from a 3 AM inventory disaster

Last Wednesday I was staring at 2,000 mismatched inventory records in my shop's database. I run a vintage furniture store in Austin and somehow our counts were off by like 40% on certain items. I spent Tuesday night manually checking shelves and almost cried. Then I fed all our old spreadsheets and photos into this AI inventory tool a buddy recommended. Within 6 hours it matched up 1,700 items just from looking at photos and descriptions. It even flagged 12 items that were listed twice under different names. I had to correct maybe 50 matches manually but the whole thing saved me what would have been two weeks of work. Has anyone else had a moment where an AI tool felt like it actually understood your specific mess?

Read something similar in a newsletter about small businesses using AI for inventory.

@price.ray I keep noticing how AI stuff is sneaking into so many everyday places without us really thinking about it. Even my local corner store uses some kind of system to predict when they'll run out of milk and bread, which is wild for a little place run by a family. The gas station near me has a little screen that adjusts drink prices based on the weather outside. It's like all these small tools are quietly learning our habits and making tiny decisions for us, and we barely even notice until someone points it out.

Talk to the folks running the store, they might not even know how much data that thing is collecting.
