My friend's marketing team just cut 8 people because their new AI tool does the work now.
I mean, part of me gets it because the company saves money, but the other part sees real people with bills who just got replaced by a program, so what are we supposed to do, just learn to code or something?

Man, that's rough. My buddy's wife was a paralegal for ten years, and her whole department got phased out by some legal review software last year. She had just bought a house, too. The company sent a memo about "future-proofing your skills" like it was no big deal. It just feels so cold, you know? Like we're all just costs to be cut now.

Remember when they laid off the whole mailroom at my friend's office? They gave them these cheap water bottles with the company logo as a "thank you for your service." His buddy had worked there for twenty years. They acted like a water bottle made up for losing your job. It's just so fake nice, you know? Like the memo is bad, but the cheap gift feels even worse.

What are we supposed to do, just learn to code until the AI learns that too? It's a dead end. The cheap gifts and fake nice memos just show they know how bad it is. Feels like we're all just waiting for our turn to be replaced.
