Fired up my air fryer at my sister's place outside Dallas and her smoke alarm went off within 2 minutes

I brought my air fryer over to my sister's house last weekend to make some buffalo cauliflower for a family get together. I preheated it like normal and threw in the florets tossed in oil and sauce. Not even 2 minutes later that smoke alarm starts screaming and her whole kitchen fills with this thin gray smoke. Turns out her oven vent hood doesn't actually vent outside it just recirculates the air back into the room. My air fryer works fine at my place because my kitchen has a window right by the stove. She was telling me she's had this issue every time she tries to cook anything with oil in her oven or on the stovetop. Has anyone else run into this problem with air fryers setting off sensitive smoke alarms in older apartments or houses?

Thin gray smoke" sounds exactly like my mom's place when I tried to sear a steak.

Oh heavens, you were probably scared of a little heat, a good sear needs smoke to do its job properly.
