Found out air fryers use way less oil than I thought
I was looking up the nutrition facts for frozen french fries yesterday and saw a comparison chart on the FDA website. It said air frying uses about 75% less oil than regular deep frying, which honestly blew my mind since I still spray a ton of stuff in there. Has anyone else checked the actual oil savings on their favorite recipe?

Hold up ross.lily you're telling me the FDA actually did something useful instead of just warning us about toasted bread? Guess I owe my air fryer an apology for blaming it when my fries taste like literal dust.

I saw 75% on a blog last week and I was shocked too. I used to think air fryers were just marketing hype and still used tons of oil. I always sprayed everything pretty heavily because I thought it wouldn't crisp up otherwise. But after reading the actual numbers from the FDA, I tried cutting my oil way back on some chicken tenders. They came out just as crunchy with maybe a tablespoon total. Honestly made me feel dumb for wasting all that extra oil before.

amy_west I get what you're saying but I gotta push back a little on the "felt dumb for wasting oil" part. I tried the minimal oil thing on fries and they came out so dry and sad I almost threw them away. For me it really depends on what you're cooking. Frozen stuff like tater tots? Yeah barely any oil works great. But fresh cut potatoes? I need at least a couple tablespoons or they turn into cardboard. Maybe my air fryer just runs different than yours though.
