A 20-year A&P told me my safety wire was 'too pretty', I changed everything
He watched me do a 3-bundle on a fuel pump and said it looked like a jewelry ad, not a lock. I started pulling way harder and taking 12 inches off each run, now it's ugly but I trust it. Anyone else get told their work was too clean to be solid?

Guess the A&P never saw jewelry that keeps engines from falling out of the sky.

Hold up, that's a good one, but actually the A&P is the guy who signs off on the plane's paperwork, not the one who designed the hardware. That pin fits and gets checked by them before every flight. The engineers are the ones who figured out how to keep the engine on the wing, the A&P just makes sure it's done right. Still a funny mental image though, dude showing up to work with a box of wrenches and a diamond ring.
