Found out most false alarms come from one simple thing... and it's not what I thought
I was reading a report from a security group last week, and it said over 60% of false dispatches are from user error with keypads. Not pets, not bad gear, just people hitting the wrong buttons or forgetting codes. I've been blaming motion sensors for years. Has anyone else seen this and changed how they do the walk-through with the homeowner?

I saw a similar report from the Safe and Sound security blog last month. They broke it down and showed that wrong code entries cause more false alarms than all environmental factors combined. It made me realize the install walk-through is the most important part of the job. Now I make clients practice disarming the system while I pretend to call them, to simulate a real alarm event.

Totally thought it was cheap sensors or pets too. That stat is wild. I used to rush through the keypad part of the install. Now I make them put in their code like five times before I leave. I even started putting the cheat sheet right on the keypad itself. Makes a huge difference.

Cheat sheet on the keypad is genius. Why didn't we all start doing that years ago?
