That Tuesday I had to fish 300 feet of 22 gauge through a 1920s brick house in Scranton
I thought I was in for an easy day. The client wanted four door contacts and a motion in her dining room. Simple. But the walls in that old house were brick with horsehair plaster, and the interior walls had no attic or crawl space to work from. I spent the first two hours just trying to find a stud bay that was even hollow. My fish tape kept hitting fire blocks about 18 inches down, so I ended up cutting three access holes in the plaster just to make the run. By 2pm I had only one contact wired and my hands were bleeding from the lath. I told the homeowner it would be a two day job and she looked at me like I had just insulted her grandmother. Got it done the next afternoon, but I still charged her for the extra day and she was not happy about the holes. Has anyone else found a better way to get through fire blocks in old balloon frame houses without making a mess?
