Vent: spent 6 hours on a ground fault from a bad zone, is it worth using a $200 meter or just keep guessing?
Had a job in Phoenix where zone 3 kept tripping, turned out the wire was nicked by a staple, but I only found it after swapping the panel and keypad, so should I drop cash on a pro meter or keep playing the odds?
Six hours on one ground fault doesn't sound that bad honestly. Half the time you're just crawling around in a hot attic chasing a staple you can't even see, so that's kind of the job. A $200 meter won't magically find a nicked wire behind drywall either, it just tells you what you already know. Swapping the panel and keypad first was the real mistake, that's guessing with your wallet. Learn from that and put the cash toward a good toner, not a fancy meter.
