Overheard my neighbor at the mailbox say his property tax went up $340 this year in Red Deer

I was grabbing mail and he was venting about his assessment notice. He said the city told him it was based on a jump in his home value and not a rate hike. That got me wondering if mine is sitting in the pile unopened. We bought our place about 3 years ago and I have never once looked at how the assessment compares to what we paid. Now I am worried I have been overpaying and did not even notice. Do you all look at your assessment every year or just wait for the bill?
