A loan algorithm's denial made me question fairness
I thought automated loan systems were just following rules. My buddy got turned down despite good income. Digging in, I saw the model weighed old debt too heavily. Now I get the ethical mess in letting code judge people. It's not as clean as I believed.

My own credit report looks like a cautionary tale... so maybe an algorithm would just laugh at me. It’s scary how those models can't see the whole story behind the numbers. Makes you wonder who’s really qualified to make these calls.

Imagine lenders missing good bets now.

Honestly, reading that hits home. My cousin had his credit wrecked after a car accident, all from medical bills. The algorithm just sees late payments, not the year he spent recovering. It's scary how a number can define you when there's so much more to the story. I feel for anyone stuck in that gap between their past and present. Who gets to decide which mistakes count forever?

Think about how those old debts might be from a medical crisis or a lost job years back. The algorithm just sees the red number, not the person who rebuilt their life since then. That blind spot makes you wonder if fair lending through pure data is even possible.
