Guy at a swap meet in Reno swore his cousin's drone footage of Pyramid Lake was real, now I cant stop rewatching it
So last month I was at the big swap meet off Glendale in Reno, killing time on a Sunday, and this older guy with a folding table full of old radios started chatting me up. He pulls out his phone and shows me a clip his cousin supposedly shot over Pyramid Lake with a cheap drone, and it shows what looks like a flat metallic thing sitting half in the water, way out past the shoreline, with a weird shimmer on top. He swears it was 40 feet across and that two guys from the water district told him to stop filming, which honestly sounds like the kind of thing you say to make a boring video sound cool. I keep looking at it though, and the water line on the thing looks right, the light hits it the way it should, and I cant find a cut or a drop shadow that gives it away. Part of me thinks its a sunken dock, a piece of test gear, or just a good edit by someone with more time than me. But I went back and watched it probably 12 times now, frame by frame on my phone, and the wobble in the footage when the drone passes the sun looks exactly like real camera shake. Has anyone here messed around with Pyramid Lake footage or knows if there was some kind of survey rig out there, because I want to be sensible about this and it keeps pulling me back in.
