My landlord said to use a hair dryer on the sticky window, I laughed, but it worked
The paint on my bedroom window was so stuck I couldn't open it for months. Landlord said heat the frame with a hair dryer for two minutes, then wiggle the handle. I tried it last Saturday and the thing popped right open, no damage at all. Cost me nothing and took less time than finding my pry bar. Anyone else gotten a landlord tip that actually wasn't total nonsense?
I had the same thing happen with a sliding patio door last winter. The track was full of old paint and it wouldn't budge no matter how hard I pulled. My buddy told me to run a hair dryer along the edge where the paint meets the glass, then give it a few firm tugs. Took about three minutes and it slid open smooth as butter. I was honestly surprised it worked, but it saved me from taking a heat gun to the frame and risking melted plastic. Now I keep the hair dryer in the garage for stuff like this.
