Vent: my landlord's "fix" for the squeaky bedroom door took 5 weeks and 3 visits
Back in March my bedroom door started squeaking so loud it woke me at 5am, and my landlord's handyman came out 3 times over 5 weeks to just spray WD-40 on the hinges, which wore off each time within a day. I finally fixed it myself with a $4 tube of white lithium grease and a screwdriver to tighten the top hinge, and it's been silent for 2 months now. Has anyone else had a landlord keep "fixing" the same thing over and over instead of just doing it right the first time?
Yeah the WD-40 thing is classic, it just sits on top and dries out or runs off, so of course it comes back in a day. The real fix is pulling the pin and greasing it right, or just doing what you did with the lithium grease. My old place had the same deal, handyman sprayed it twice and I finally just tapped the pin out with a nail and a hammer, wiped it down, and packed it with grease. Took me ten minutes and never squeaked again, sometimes you just gotta handle it yourself and save the back and forth.
