I was dead set on swapping every thermostat I touched, until a $12 test light proved me wrong
For 8 years I replaced any thermostat that looked old on a fridge or oven call because it felt like cheap insurance. Last Tuesday in Phoenix I was at a rental with a fridge running warm, and the guy before me had already put in two new ones in 6 weeks. I clipped a test light to the defrost heater circuit and it lit right up, meaning the board was fine and the real issue was a bad sensor. The homeowner showed me the receipt for $340 in parts that never needed to be there, and that stung more than the callback ever would. So how many of you test the defrost circuit before you even look at the thermostat, or am I the last guy doing it backwards?
