Hot take: climbing spikes or a ladder for that dead oak in Fort Wayne last week, and I'm second guessing my pick
I had to choose between spiking the trunk on a 60 foot dead oak or working it slow off a ladder, and I went with spikes since the whole tree was coming down anyway. The bark was loose and one gaff kicked out around the 40 foot mark, which made me wonder if the ladder would've been safer. What's your cutoff for spikes on dead wood?
Remember that video of the guy who spiked a dead pine and the whole top section peeled off? I still think about that every time I see loose bark on a removal.
