I used to chase every new pyramid claim on YouTube, now I wait for the dig reports and it's night and day
Back around 2019 I was glued to my phone every time some new documentary dropped about a hidden chamber or a lost city, and I'd be texting my brother at 11pm like we just cracked the case. Then a geophysicist named Dr. Eleni showed up at a seminar I went to in Chicago and flat out said most of those scans get hyped way past what the data actually shows. She walked us through how one famous void scan got picked apart in peer review for 4 years before anyone could even say what was down there. After that I stopped getting excited about the clickbait stuff and started checking the actual excavation journals, which move slow and boring but tell you the truth. When they found those 3,000 year old bronze swords in Germany a while back, I read the real site report instead of a 12 minute video with scary music. It's not as fun, but I actually know what the evidence says now instead of guessing. Does anyone else here follow the field reports first, or am I the odd one out?
Ah yes, the terrifying music documentary, nature's way of telling you the data is thin. Good on you for sitting through a whole seminar on peer review, most people would rather watch a guy whisper about aliens for 12 minutes. I do think checking the actual reports is worth it, even if it feels like reading a phone book, because at least the phone book doesn't have jump cuts. My guess is you're less the odd one out and more just ahead of the curve. Half the folks in those comment sections will get there eventually, once a few more hyped chambers turn out to be, well, nothing much.
