Local dig in Ohio turned up a Roman coin, weirdest thing I've seen
They found a bronze coin dated around 230 AD at a site near Chillicothe, which should be way off for that area. The theory floating around is someone lost it during a reenactment decades ago, but the soil layers suggest it was buried earlier. It got me wondering how often modern objects end up in ancient contexts by accident. Has anyone else seen something clearly out of place at a site?

That soil layer detail really got me, stuff like that makes you question everything. I had almost the same thing happen at a dig in Pennsylvania, we pulled a rusted metal button from a context we thought was pre colonial. Turned out it was from a civil war uniform, but the layer said it should have been way older. The geologist on site swore the soil hadn't been disturbed, so we just sat there staring at it. I figure these things happen more than people admit, the ground is full of holes and surprises.
