Paid $600 for a home inspection, the guy missed the leak that cost me $3,800
He checked the roof and plumbing but never looked under the sink cabinet, and I only found the rot when I opened it to store cleaning supplies, so has anyone else had a inspector miss something that obvious?
Whoa, hold on there. I gotta say, most inspectors are not gonna open up every cabinet and pull out all your stuff. They do a visual check of what they can see, plain and simple. Water leaks behind closed doors are a classic thing that gets missed, and that's a big reason why they always tell you to get a specialist for stuff like that. The real issue here is that you spent good money and expected a full sweep, but the rules for what they check are way looser than people think. It stinks you had to eat that cost, but it sounds like you might have a case to at least complain to the company and see if they'll cut you a break on the fee.
