Substitute teacher called me out on my lecture pace, now I time everything
I was running a 75 minute history lesson last Tuesday at Lincoln High and a sub two rows back just said "you're going too fast, half the room is lost." I checked the clock, I had burned through 40 slides in 25 minutes without a single question. Since then I set a timer for every 10 minute block and force a pause to ask if anyone needs me to repeat something. Has anyone else had a student or guest call out a bad habit you didn't notice for months?

Wait, 40 slides in 25 minutes? That's like a slide every 37 seconds. I've sat through enough lectures to know nobody can digest dates and names at that speed. Honestly I'm impressed your hand survived clicking through that many slides without cramping up. That sub probably saved your students from a collective brain melt.
